What a great day to be a IBES Tiger, Balloon Races during PE! #ibtigerpride

This year, our IBES students have been learning all about our Tiger Traits as part of the PBIS programming. Students will learn about different positive character traits throughout the school year.
During the month of September, students learned about the trait, Integrity. Students learned that integrity means being honest and having moral principles. All students participated in a lesson with Mrs. Craven to introduce to them what it means to have integrity and how to show integrity at school!
Each Friday during announcements, students are reminded what it means to have integrity and are given a new mini-lesson or quote to remind them how to live with integrity. In addition, there is an interactive bulletin board visible to all students to remind them of the current trait they are learning. Students and teachers have the opportunity to give a “shout-out” to peers when they see them acting with the trait of the month. The “shout-outs” are collected, and a random name is drawn, before our next character trait is introduced, for a small prize!

Bus Route 12 will NOT run tomorrow (9/29) morning. Our middle/elementary school routes will pick up high school students tomorrow. These bus routes run a little later than route 12 typical does. Thanks for your patience!

Ms. Gresham's Mindful Thrifting Community Hour has covered topics ranging from repurposed thrifted fashion to creative room design, but today's activity focused on mindful thrifting at the grocery store as students partnered up to participate in a Thrifty Food Challenge. Groups were given about a dozen clearance-priced food items and asked to plan a meal for four people. They were encouraged to consult with "experts" here at school - mostly Mr. Murphy and Mrs. Cowen, who provided excellent advice! Mindful Thrifting will partner with The Cookery, a cooking school and restaurant in Morton, and Sous Chef Joe Gresham (IB Alum) will judge the "best" student-created meal and show the Mindful Thrifting class how to prepare it from scratch. In the coming weeks, the Mindful Thrifting Community Hour will create a Thrift and Thrive pop-up display, take a field trip to Goodwill, and learn about the related topic of gentrification from guest speaker Mr. Brown.

Players of all skill levels chose to be part of Mr. Adamczyk's The Game of Chess Community Hour. So far this quarter, seasoned players have mentored new players, students have participated in a class chess tournament, and, today, they took part in a Chess Speedrun Challenge, a timed match in which players have one minute to outplay their opponent. The game of chess reinforces critical thinking and mathematical skills, improves concentration, and encourages creative problem solving. To learn more about the benefits of chess in an academic setting, visit ChessinEducation.org.

Today, the Bigger, Faster, Stronger Community Hour focused on deadlifts, bench and squats in the weight room. Mr. Waters works closely with this group to help each student identify their own fitness goals, track their progress, and assess their personal growth throughout the quarter. Students cited a variety of reasons for choosing this Community Hour, ranging from improving performance in a chosen sport to simply taking time to focus on getting stronger. Bigger, Faster, Stronger encourages students to take ownership of their physical health and helps builds a foundation for a lifetime of healthy habits.
