Alvey

Dr. Roger Alvey, superintendent of Illini Bluffs CUSD #327, is the new president of Illinois Association of School Administrators (IASA), a statewide association of school superintendents and administrators.

The mission of the IASA is to support school leaders in the pursuit of educational excellence through continued school improvement. The organization has been around since 1946 and has nearly 1,750 members.

“The IASA has always been there for me. The organization has allowed me to grow and develop, and it has provided me with the support that I needed in the best of times and in the worst of times” said Alvey. “I look forward to serving as president of the IASA and relish the opportunity to develop relationships with new and different superintendents from across the state.”

Dr. Brent Clark, executive director of the IASA, is looking forward to Alvey leading the IASA during the 2023-2024 school year.

“Every decision we make at IASA, we try to do it through the lens of what’s best for students,” Dr. Brent Clark said. “That’s the way Dr. Alvey has operated throughout his career. He cares deeply about all students and has the experience, knowledge, and leadership skills to help guide our association forward.”

Illini Bluffs School Board President Chris Coats praised Alvey’s appointment saying “his involvement and leadership with the IASA has helped IB in so many ways.”

“Dr. Alvey ensures that we are aware of current trends, as well as a myriad of other issues being discussed in Springfield, which helps us make informed decisions when it comes to issues in our district” said Coats, noting that Alvey was a Superintendent of Distinction in 2019. Coats went to say that “as a Board of Education we couldn’t be prouder of what Dr. Alvey has done to help our state educational system and our district function as effectively and efficiently as we do, and we know his tenure as President of the IASA will be extremely successful.”

In addition to serving this past year as president-elect of the association, Alvey also has been treasurer of IASA as well as a member of the IASA Board of Directors. Dr. Alvey serves on the Illinois Joint Terrorism Taskforce School Safety Working Group and is known throughout the state for his leadership efforts regarding school safety.

Alvey is starting his 10th year as Superintendent of Illini Bluffs CUSD #327. Prior to joining Illini Bluffs, he served as superintendent of Elmwood School District 322 for 7 years and as superintendent of Limestone Walters District 316 for 6 years. His 31 years in education began as a high school science teacher for the Bushnell-Prairie City School District, and he was a high school science teacher, coach, and middle school principal at Illini Bluffs in the late 1990s.

Dr. Alvey is married to his wife, Stephanie, and the couple have four children, Hannah (21), Clara (19), Hank (17), and Will (15).
